I have eaten here for years and really like it though the service isn't always the best. First of all if you are able to get a hold of someone on the phone to make a reservation, they put you on hold for a while and then tell you about how busy they are, like you are not important, this has happened to us several times. The fish is great as you have read from other reviewers and I tend to have the dinner upstairs vs the family style long tables in the basement, not my thing. You are much better off staying there to eat because when you get it to go, you don't get half the stuff and you pay more. Scenery inside has not changed for many many years and perhaps it could be updated but it's a nice little place. Prices tend to be a little on the high end. They have AYCE crab legs which used to be really good, if you could get a waitress to get you more, as I said the service isn't that great - but they now raised the prices so high, it's really not worth it when you can go elsewhere for $10 less for the same thing. The kids meals are outrageously priced, so I really wouldn't recommend it for children. I have to say, one thing that bugs me most about Clifford's is the false advertising of their photos. Do not be fooled by their website or even this photo on here, this is not their decor! There is no brick walls and they do not have an outdoor balcony as shown on their website, I think that is pretty misleading and not sure why they would try to fool you like that.

Good fish fry but service is slow......

Fish Fry Review: The restaurant is split into a hall that serves the fish frys family style and a supper club as a sit down dinner. We decided to eat in the supper club this time around. They have a variety of dinner items available but I didn't pay much attention to it because I had my mind set on the all you can eat (AYCE for you fish fry fanatics) fish fry. The AYCE Cod Fish Fry is $11.95 and comes with cole slaw, bread, and fries for $11.95. The dinner is $13.95 and comes with a dinner salad, choice of soup, veggies, and choice of potato.

The Best fish i've ever had. Worth the money. I'm a fan.

I'll give this four stars, perhaps out of nostalgia. It's an interesting personal decision. A middle to working class staple of south suburban dining, you'll find yourself being offered a continuous flow of fried food by busy servers. Pay the fish fry fee and eat until your belly is content. Not a nutritious concept, but worth the community eating experience. Clifford's is best for a family night out with many young kids, where noise and mess can be seamlessly sandwiched in with your meal.

I came in for their Friday Fish fry on a visit to Tha Mil...and I loved it! I grew up on the beach in L.A. so I KNOW good fish'n'chips when I have it and I had it at Cliffords. Tender, flakey and not too greasy. Fries, not chips but it's all good I guess. Family style serving and sitting at the benches with other peeps was kinda cool too. Great value, great food and a great night. I enjoyed Cliffords!

My husband and I went here for a benefit for someone that my younger sister went to school here. The parking lot is small and it is wierdly shaped, which I wasn't a fan of. There wasn't much decor on the walls - some wood paneling, basic banquet chairs. I would think it's a supper club, it would at least a little fancier? Maybe my expectations are too high. But anyways, I think the 70's (or is it the 80's) wants their decor back. The food was okay, there was nothing spectacular about it. Would I go back? Probably not.

This should really be negative stars it was such a terrible dining experience. When u walk in the place smells weird and is so outdated it's falling apart. We ordered the all you can eat fish fry our waitress forgot to bring us our drinks to start. Then Che brought us the worlds most grease soaked soggy over salted fried cod of all time. Just awful and I mean awful. And let's talk about the price most fish fries runaround ten bucks theirs was 15.00 and frankly it made me want to puke - I'd stay away from this place its terrible

Husband had the fish fry he said it was good . I had the broasted chicken ! It was great ! The potatoes were good , stuffing good . Grean beans lil mushy and blan . But overall we will be back ! More for an older set crowd

I will write this review for one sole reason. The Cherries Jubilee. My flippin' inbox is chalk full of people asking me where to get a good Cherries Jubilee. Well Clifford's has a good one. Just like Jack always made em'. Clifford's has a MKE cult following I guess. It knock some peoples socks off. They have a decent Supper Club menu. I keep coming back for the dessert though. As some of you know I am not into dessert too much. I like ice cream cakes, but I only have one birthday a year, and usually I don't feel like having people over for cake anyhow. I am kind of sick of that birthday song too. I guess I over birthdays now that I am old enough to run for POTUS.

The service is terrible. My friend ordered the new york strip steak when it came it was over done and burned and cold. We sent it back when the replacement it was cold alot of grisly.. They know steak knives. The green beans were cold. They gave us an empty bottle of A1 sauce. I ordered the sirloin of beef it cold tough grisly no seasoning and no steak knife. Neither meal had any taste. Paper knapkins no water. $60.00 and our Easter mean ruined.while we were there 2 couples walked out. We will never go back. When I called them and complained they did make it good so we will try again.

Looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner at Clifford's again this year. For many years now, our family has had a fabulous turkey dinner with all the trimmings without the hassle of cooking or clean up. And the food is just like I would make at home. Large hall can handle small or large families easily. Yay for Clifford's.

I love the all you can eat Friday fish fry. Food is hot and comes out pretty quick. Service can be hit or miss depending on what waitstaff you get. Service can be lightning fast or super slow.

Good fish fry (all you can eat), decent price and service.

We are here on a week night. I ordered steak, my husband orders fish. There was nobody in the restaurant....... Our food was terrible. Neither of us finished our food.

My husband is a total foodie, and we decided to try this place. Absolutely delicious fish fry!

This was a good place for a fish fry and the family style service in the banquet room was great for sharing a meal with a group of friends. The fish had nice batter and was served with a creamy coleslaw, french fries and bread. I wish Clifford's was closer to my house!

Are you kidding me?!?! The phone at our normal Friday Fish Fry stop was off the hook for some odd reason, so instead of driving out to find this small restaurant closed, my wife and I decided to order takeout somewhere else. We had been to Clifford's about a year back for the AYCE Fish Fry and it was decent but not great. We decided to give them another shot and I'm regretting it. I called to put in a takeout order at about 6:45PM. They said I have to come in and put in an order for takeout at their "takeout window", and "it comes out really quick, it only takes about five minutes". I hung up the phone and I was in their establishment within 15 minutes. Their parking lot sucks. It's always packed and it's awkwardly shaped. If you come here on a busy night, you'll be parking about 2-3 blocks away. And to the a$$clown driving the Ford Taurus who parked in front of the Clifford's sign, learn how to park. You barely left enough room for my small Camry to squeeze through, yet the back end of the full size pickup truck next to you is two feet ahead of your back end. I walk in and look and look and there's no takeout window, which I thought was weird since I've been in here probably twice and didn't remember them having one. I stop a waiter right of the bat, he tells me they're taking orders at the register at the end of the bar. I put in an order for two fish dinners and a couple extra pieces of fish, since I wanted to be on the safe side and my young daughter would be sharing our meals. I pay, she hands me a ticket and says "you're 66". I take the ticket, stand there clueless until I ask "Do I just wait here?" And she tells me "Have a seat at the bar". At least the bartender asked me if I wanted a drink, to which I politely declined due to their small and uninspired beer list, which was badly printed, put in a clear binder sleeve and taped onto a cabinet. Fine dining at its best. It's a good thing I wore my fancy sweatpants. I instantly get caught in the rabbit hole of Twitter, until a young lady wakes me up out of my trance. I check my trusty iPhone and it's been almost 25 minutes. So much for the in and out service. My wife loves fish fry and I buy a lot of these take out meals since she usually works late and I pick it up right before she gets home and they stop serving fish for the night. I know what the proper weight of two four piece meals should be, and this is pretty light. Instead of checking takeout boxes in the parking lot, I take my hungry ass home and open up what Clifford's considers "Fine Dining". A picture says a thousand words, and I took pictures of both meals and posted them on here. Pitiful. Extremely small pieces of fish, worst of all half of the pieces were over cooked and burnt on the edges. A couple "pieces" of fish were half the size of my 18 month olds hand! The fries were absurdly soggy. The coleslaw tasted like they stuffed a couple shreds of cabbage in a quarter cup of the blandest mayonnaise you can buy. The dinner roll was store bought at best and oddly enough, that was the best part of the meal. All this for $32.50. My wife wanted me to take it back, but I couldn't fathom driving another 10 minutes to have me wait another 25 minutes for them to get it right, and then have to drive back home to boot. I would say that this is McDonalds quality food but that's giving it too much credit. At least at McD's, I'd pay a third less for more food that's not burnt and get some soft drinks included in the price. Actually, what we couldn't salvage out of the pile for my daughter we fed to the dogs, and that was probably borderline animal abuse considering how badly prepared this meal was. I will never, EVER, step foot in here again.

An archetypical Wisconsin supper club. I've had Chicago and other out of town friends ask, "What is a supper club?" And I tell them, well, it's a Wisconsin thing, come up this way and I'll take you to one. If it's a Friday, then this place might be my choice, as they have a good, typical Wisconsin fish fry. They bill themselves as a seafood supper club, and those seem to be their best dishes. Their food ranges from mediocre to okay, you're better off with anything fried. A big part of the enjoyment at a Wisconsin supper club for me is nostalgic. We stopped by places like this to or from the Dells on family car trips out of Chicago. Just like then, when I order an Old Fashioned (like Mom used to), the waitress (overweight, calls me "honey") asks without any hesitation, "whiskey or brandy," followed by "sweet or sour, " and does not ask if I want a specific brand of whisky or brandy, and just like then, it comes quickly in an authentic old-fashioned-specific glass (properly called, an old fashioned glass). It's like stepping into the "Way-back Machine" and Mr. Peabody has set it for 1973, Milwaukee. I think I even called my wife, Sherman, once or twice. She's a bit younger than me, totally didn't get it. Who remembers when Agnew was Vice-President? I think that might be the last time they remodeled. Try the lobster bites.

This place does have a great fish fry! We did a pick up order last Friday. I would have prefered to eat there, as the take-out is a bit expensive compared to AYCE, but it was not outrageous. It was also very good! It isn't much to look at, but this place really does a good job with fish.

Not a place for me! Bad food!!! Six of us had cold food at lunch. Soups cold on the "soup buffet". Good service though. Server gets 4 stars!!! Don't think I will return.

My favorite fish fry in Milwaukee. I've been going here since I was a kid, and the only change is the steadily climbing price of the fish fry... which can be said about all fish fries... not just Clifford's. I've eaten in the smaller restaurant version once or twice, but to really experience the place you need to come on Friday for the fish fry. They open up this huge VFW-ish dining hall room. It's loud, there's lots of south-siders sitting around shoveling fried food into their mouths... it's basically paradise. I believe it's haddock - and it's perfect. Not too bready, lots of white flaky fish underneath there. The tarter sauce is good, too. The last time I went, my waitress was kind of an ass. I'm a pretty easy guy to please when I go out to eat, and we were far from difficult during this trip... but she gave me an "i'm really busy" look when I asked for a refill of pepsi. I'm so sorry, waitress! If she was that good of a server I wouldn't have even had to ask for the refill in the first place (I love when they just bring you a refill), but whatever. As you can tell, I'm totally over it. That was one time though, this place rules. Go there - you won't regret it.

Good fish fry, but I've had better in the Hales Corners-Franklin area. They serve the fish fry all day, every day, so I can't imagine why anyone would wait for a table on Friday night when they could have the same thing at any other time without the hassle.

My family and I went here to see a music act being put on in the hall recently. We decided to have dinner before hand. My girlfriend and I both had AYCE crab legs ($32 at the time) which were in themselves very good, but that's where the good ends. The rest of our party's food (burgers, steaks, ribs, chicken) were all mediocre to bad. I would not mind coming here for the crab legs, but I know of other places that have them and cheaper. I think I won't be visiting here again without a good reason.

We tried Clifford's for the first time tonight. It took 1/2 an hour to get a glass of water. It went downhill from there. The baked cod with "drawn butter" was $15.00. The "drawn butter" was the water the fish was probably baked in. I had to wait at least 20 min. for the server to come back to get butter. It was flavorless otherwise. The baked potayto was cold and obviously baked yesterday or the day before. The chicken and dumpling soup tasted similar to the water I was served as "drawn butter". Very bad experience from beginning to end. Not at all worth the prices they charge.

Time to close this joint or do an extreme restaurant make over!

I was a little leery going here after reading the horrible reviews, but went anyway for a scheduled dinner not of my own choosing. The negative reviews are accurate. I can forgive the dated ambiance as I believe it is more of a nostalgic thing; consider George Webb's and Maria's. What I can't forgive is: Waiting forever to get seated even though perhaps a couple other customers were in the hall at the time (there was no sign to seat ourselves but there sure were a handful of waitstaff just talking to each other and staring at us like we were aliens boarding the spacecraft), the terrible attitude of the cashier, the manner in which the server asked almost every single person if they wanted more fish and fries (Shouldn't she just have asked if we all wanted another basket or 2?) and the lack of cleanliness. The price is outrageous for the quality of food - even for all-you-can-eat, you'd do better going to a buffet. In my opinion, there are much better fish frys elsewhere. Never coming here again.

If you want tasty all you can eat fish, this is a place you have to try.

You know, a run of the mill local joint supper club...been here about six times in my lifetime...weddings...dinners and such...remember it to be pretty good...kind of reminds me of the Packing House on Layton.
